In a tribute to the Spider Mite’s Retirement, I wanted to share some photos of the early product development process, Back in 2008, I saw a need for a portable inspection system for Home Inspectors, Pest Control Technicians and Building Inspectors. The Idea was to develop a system to keep the operator safe while the Bot is deployed into a Hazardous Environment such as: Crawl Spaces, Trenches or Pipelines.

I found that by using an RC Crawler with 4WD, I could get a jumpstart on the drivetrain. The advantage being- I did not have to design a rolling chassis from the ground up, plus the crawlers were able to achieve incredible inclines of 60˚! I used an Axial AX10 and found it very capable and affordable.
